Best AI SEO Agencies in Australia
Search "best AI SEO agency in Australia" and you'll notice something odd: most of the results are agencies ranking themselves. Nearly every listicle on the first page was published by a company that also appears somewhere in its own top five.
That isn't necessarily dishonest. Plenty of agencies genuinely believe they belong on the list. But it makes the format hard to trust, and it means most of these guides skip the one thing that would actually help: a stated reason for the ranking.
This one has a stated reason, so here it is up front. One of the agencies below, Performance Agency, is run by the author of this article, Blake Smith. It's included because it meets the criteria described below, and it's evaluated the same way as every other agency here, including a section on where it's the wrong choice. If that's the kind of disclosure you'd rather not have to think about, it's worth knowing before you read further. That's exactly why it's stated plainly instead of left for you to discover.
What is AI SEO?
AI SEO is the practice of making a business visible inside AI-generated answers, such as Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, rather than only in the traditional ten blue links.
In practice that means a few things:
structuring content so individual passages answer questions on their own
naming entities explicitly instead of relying on pronouns
marking up pages with schema so machines can parse who's saying what
building the third-party citations these systems draw on when they decide what to reference
It overlaps heavily with traditional SEO, because technical crawlability and content quality still matter. But it adds a retrieval layer that didn't exist a few years ago.
You'll also see the terms GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation, being cited inside generated answers) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation, structuring information to be served as a direct answer). The labels overlap so much that the name an agency uses tells you very little. What matters is what it actually does underneath.
Why "AI SEO" isn't one job
Each AI platform sources its answers differently, and a good agency should be able to explain the differences without hand-waving.
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on Google's own index. Pages generally need to be indexed and eligible for a snippet in regular search, and strong organic rankings on a topic make citation far more likely. Google states that no special markup is required to appear in these features.
ChatGPT relies on OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot crawler for its search answers. That crawler is separate from GPTBot, which collects training data, and a site that blocks OAI-SearchBot can't appear in ChatGPT search. OpenAI doesn't guarantee inclusion for anyone.
Perplexity runs its own crawler and shows sources prominently. That makes it the easiest platform on which to see whether work is landing.
Microsoft Copilot is grounded in Bing, so Bing's index and Bing Webmaster Tools matter here.
Two more facts shape the technical work. Many AI crawlers fetch raw HTML without executing JavaScript, so content that loads client-side can be invisible to them. And AI answers vary between runs, so a single screenshot proves very little.
An agency that treats "AI SEO" as one generic tactic, or can't tell you which platform its reporting covers, is worth questioning.
How the agencies below were selected
Every agency on this list had to show, on its own site, actual AI SEO methodology. A page that swaps "SEO" for "AI SEO" in the header and changes nothing underneath didn't count. Beyond that baseline, the assessment weighed five things:
Specificity. Does the agency describe what it actually does, platform by platform, or only restate the definition?
Integration. Is AI SEO embedded in normal delivery, or sold as a bolt-on product?
Measurement. Does the agency say how it tracks AI visibility, and how that connects to leads or revenue?
Fit. What kind of business is it built to serve?
Scale. Does it operate at meaningful scale in the Australian market?
None of this is scored numerically. There isn't enough public, verifiable data to justify manufactured points out of ten, so the descriptions below are qualitative. Unless stated otherwise, they're sourced from what each agency says about itself. Client results quoted by agencies are their own claims and haven't been independently audited.

The agencies
StudioHawk
StudioHawk runs AI SEO through the same specialists who handle a client's core SEO work, rather than as a separate stream. Its stated framework moves through four stages:
foundation work
AI-specific optimisation, including entity and topic clustering, schema, and clean markup for machine parsing
authority building through digital PR
ongoing visibility tracking across AI Overviews and chat-based engines
The agency has offices in Melbourne, Prahran and Sydney's South Eveleigh, plus UK and US divisions. It lists clients including Kip&Co, Officeworks, Kogan and Ryobi.
Best for: businesses that want AI search folded into a mature, well-resourced SEO program.
Worth knowing: StudioHawk's client list and multi-country structure suggest a generalist agency built for a wide range of industries and budgets, rather than a specialist for one niche. If you're after AI SEO for a narrow local business, a smaller, more focused shop might give you more direct attention per dollar.
Impressive
Impressive frames its AI SEO offer around proof rather than process. It starts with an audit of how AI platforms currently reference the brand. That's followed by prompt research, entity-focused content, technical schema work and authority development. Its stated differentiator is ongoing measurement of citation patterns and AI inclusion rates.
The agency is Melbourne-headquartered with a national footprint, is B Corp certified, and cites over 130 client reviews at a 4.8-star average.
Best for: larger organisations in competitive, research-heavy industries that want audit-grade reporting.
Worth knowing: Impressive positions itself for enterprise-scale engagements. Its scale and certifications suit larger budgets. A smaller business chasing a narrow local query may not need, or want to pay for, that level of infrastructure.
Safari Digital
Safari Digital describes itself as a full-service SEO agency that treats AEO and GEO as standard parts of every SEO engagement rather than an add-on. It covers on-site, off-site, technical and content SEO in-house. It states that clients deal directly with specialists rather than account managers, and it reports serving 250-plus campaigns across more than 50 industries from its Sydney office.
Best for: businesses that want specialist SEO depth with AI search built in, and direct access to the people doing the work.
Worth knowing: Safari Digital is explicit that it doesn't offer digital marketing services beyond SEO. That specialisation is a genuine strength if SEO is exactly what you need. It's a limitation if you want AI search work combined with paid media or conversion optimisation under one roof.
Prosperity Media
Prosperity Media's generative AI SEO service uses AI tools for content planning, keyword research and natural-language content optimisation. Its stated principle is that human SEO specialists review AI-generated output before it ships. The agency's own framing is "AI's creativity with strategic SEO practices", with AI supporting the strategy rather than replacing it. It's Australian-based, with more than a decade of team experience, and cites double- and triple-digit traffic and revenue growth figures from client work.
Best for: businesses that want AI-assisted content efficiency without handing strategy to automation.
Worth knowing: the growth figures are the agency's own reported client results, not independently audited. Treat them as a claim to ask about in a sales conversation, not a verified benchmark. The positioning of AI for efficiency and humans for strategy will reassure businesses wary of fully automated content. It may feel like a lighter-touch approach to businesses that want AI search visibility to be the headline service.
Digital Surfer
Digital Surfer bundles three things on top of traditional SEO foundations:
AI content strategy
technical work to make sites crawlable by AI systems
generative engine optimisation aimed specifically at ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews
The agency states more than ten years of SEO experience and operates in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. It was recognised at the 2024–2025 APAC Search Awards.
Best for: businesses that want explicit, platform-named GEO work alongside conventional SEO, with closer contact with senior staff.
Worth knowing: Digital Surfer's public-facing team profile is smaller than Impressive's or StudioHawk's. That can mean more direct contact with senior people. It can also mean less bench depth for a large, multi-workstream campaign, depending on what you're optimising for.
Performance Agency
Performance Agency is an Australian AI search and organic growth agency for established B2B companies. It doesn't begin GEO work by targeting prompts or producing more SEO content. It first determines what the company should become known and recommended for. Then it builds the search assets, evidence and third-party authority needed to reinforce that position across Google and AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
The agency calls this approach Recommendation Positioning → Authority Engineering → Recommendation Optimisation:
Recommendation Positioning defines a commercially valuable position.
Authority Engineering substantiates it with content, original research, digital PR, citations and entity signals.
Recommendation Optimisation measures whether that positioning is translating into more discovery, recommendation and qualified pipeline.
Rather than treating GEO as an isolated visibility exercise, it approaches AI search as a customer-acquisition problem.
Best for: established B2B companies whose buyers use AI tools to research and shortlist vendors, and who want AI visibility measured against pipeline rather than mentions.
Worth knowing: Performance Agency is built for established B2B companies, and engagements are typically sized for businesses comfortable with retainers of $5,000+ per month. It isn't the right fit for local consumer businesses, early-stage companies without an existing market position, or anyone looking for a low-cost prompt-tracking service. If you want direct senior input on a smaller scope, a consultant may suit better. You can work with Blake Smith directly as an AI SEO consultant.
SearchScope
SearchScope is a Perth-headquartered, founder-led SEO consultancy that integrates AI search visibility (GEO/AEO) directly into its core organic and local search engagements. Run by Dorian Menard, who has worked in search since 2013, the firm focuses heavily on direct, senior execution with no account managers or junior handoffs.
SearchScope approaches AI SEO by pairing technical entity alignment (such as schema, JSON-LD, and sameAs mapping) with machine-citable assets—like glossaries, explicit comparison framework pages, and Q&A formatted for LLM extraction. It tracks live brand citations across platforms like ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, and Claude alongside traditional rankings.
What AI SEO costs in Australia
Few agencies publish prices, so these are ballpark ranges drawn from the Australian market rather than quotes from the agencies above. All prices are ex-GST.
One-off AI visibility audit: roughly $1,500 to $5,000+, depending on site size and how many platforms are assessed.
Foundation work (technical fixes, entity cleanup, schema): roughly $2,000 to $10,000+.
Ongoing retainers: from around $1,500 per month for a single local business to $10,000+ per month for national, enterprise or highly contested B2B categories.
Be cautious of anything priced well below these ranges. Real AI search work involves technical fixes, content and third-party authority building, none of which is cheap to do properly. Be equally cautious of a high retainer that starts on day one without a diagnosis. You shouldn't pay monthly before anyone has established what's actually wrong.
Questions to ask any AI SEO agency before signing
Which AI platforms will you report on, and will each be reported separately? Google AI, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot behave differently, so a single blended "AI score" hides more than it shows.
How do you measure visibility? Look for a fixed set of buyer questions tracked over time, separating being cited, being mentioned and being absent.
How does that connect to leads or revenue? AI mentions that never turn into enquiries aren't a business outcome.
Have you checked crawler access and JavaScript rendering on our site? These are the most common reasons a site is invisible to AI systems. They're also the quickest to fix.
Who will actually do the work? Ask whether you'll deal with the specialist or an account manager.
What happens in the first 60 days? A credible answer describes diagnosis and foundation fixes, not immediate citations.
What are the contract terms? Ask about minimum term, notice period, and what you keep if you leave.
Red flags
Guaranteed AI citations, or results promised within 30 days. The AI platforms themselves don't guarantee inclusion.
Screenshots of a single AI answer offered as proof. Answers change between runs.
An "AI SEO" service page that's word-for-word the agency's regular SEO page.
Schema pitched as the secret to AI visibility. Google says no special markup is required for its AI features.
Reporting built entirely on "AI mentions", with no connection to enquiries or pipeline.
How to use this list
None of these six is the objectively "best" AI SEO agency in Australia. That framing doesn't hold up once you look at how differently they're built:
StudioHawk and Safari Digital are SEO specialists who've folded AI search into their existing discipline.
Impressive is built for scale and audit-grade reporting.
Prosperity Media and Digital Surfer sit in the middle, each with a stated AI-plus-human philosophy.
Performance Agency is the outlier in this set. It's built around B2B positioning and customer acquisition rather than SEO deliverables, and it treats AI search visibility as a means to qualified pipeline.
The more useful question than "which is best" is which structure fits the problem you actually have. If you're weighing a specialist consultant against any agency on this list, AI SEO consultant vs agency in Australia covers that decision directly. If Performance Agency's model looks like the right fit, performanceagency.com.au sets out what an engagement involves.
FAQs
Is AI SEO different from traditional SEO?
It overlaps substantially: technical crawlability, content quality and backlink authority still matter to both. AI SEO adds a retrieval-specific layer. That means structuring passages so they can be understood and cited on their own, naming entities explicitly, and building the third-party corroboration AI systems draw on when choosing what to reference.
Do these agencies only work with large businesses?
No, but scale varies:
Impressive and StudioHawk operate at a size suited to enterprise and high-competition sectors.
Safari Digital, Prosperity Media and Digital Surfer describe working across small, mid-size and enterprise clients.
Performance Agency focuses on established B2B companies.
Ask directly about minimum engagement size before assuming either way.
How much does AI SEO cost in Australia?
As a ballpark, a one-off audit costs roughly $1,500 to $5,000+. Ongoing retainers range from around $1,500 per month for smaller businesses to $10,000+ per month for enterprise and contested B2B categories, ex-GST.
How long does AI SEO take to show results?
Technical fixes such as crawler access and rendering can take effect quickly. Consistent citation across AI platforms is usually measured over quarters rather than weeks, and established domains with strong organic rankings tend to move faster.
Can an agency guarantee my business will appear in ChatGPT or Google's AI Overviews?
No. Neither OpenAI nor Google guarantees inclusion, so no agency can either. Treat any guarantee as a red flag.
Should I hire one of these agencies or a consultant instead?
It depends on whether you need broad execution capacity or direct senior input on a leaner budget. AI SEO consultant vs agency in Australia sets out the actual decision factors.
