What are your magnets made of?

Our [flexible custom magnets](https://www.stickermule.com/products/custom-magnets) are made from __iron (ferrite) powder__ mixed with a proprietary blend of __rubber and plastic compounds__, then pressed into sheets.

How it’s built (layer by layer):

- Magnetic base: Ferrite powder provides the magnetic properties
- Flexible binder: Rubber + plastic compounds make the magnet durable and bendable
- Printable face: A high-quality white vinyl top layer for crisp, vibrant printing

Each sheet is printed with your design and cut to match your unique shape.

How strong are your custom magnets?

Accepted Answer

Don’t let their size fool you—our [custom magnets](https://www.stickermule.com/products/custom-magnets) are thin, high-energy magnets with a pull strength of __65 pounds per square foot__. In other words, one square foot of magnet material can hold up to 65 pounds.

What that means in real life:
- They can easily hold three sheets of standard 8.5" × 11" paper on a fridge.
- They can stay securely attached to cars at highway speeds.

How thick are your custom magnets?

Accepted Answer

Our [custom magnets](https://www.stickermule.com/products/custom-magnets) have a thickness of about 0.38 mm, or 15 mils (1 mil = 0.001 inches). For reference, this is about the same thickness as our [die cut stickers](https://www.stickermule.com/products/die-cut-stickers) with the backing on.

Our [acrylic magnets](https://www.stickermule.com/products/acrylic-magnets) have a thickness of about 4 mm, or 158 mils, including the magnet itself.

Keep in mind that magnet thickness does not necessarily correlate with [magnet strength](https://www.stickermule.com/support/faq/magnets/how-strong-are-your-magnets). The strength of a magnet primarily depends on the quality of the raw materials and the manufacturing process.

How long do your magnets last?

With proper care, our [custom magnets](https://www.stickermule.com/products/custom-magnets) can last for __many years__. They’re made with durable materials and waterproof ink to keep colors vibrant.

Indoor vs. outdoor use:
- Indoors: Magnets used on a fridge or other indoor surfaces typically stay vibrant longer.
- Outdoors (including cars): Outdoor exposure (sun, rain, dirt, wind) can shorten lifespan. Our magnets can be used outdoors, but they don’t have a UV laminate, so magnets left in direct sunlight may fade faster.

How to make them last longer:

What do magnets stick to?

[Custom magnets](https://www.stickermule.com/products/custom-magnets) stick best to __ferromagnetic metals__—materials with strong magnetic properties like __iron and steel__ (and also __nickel__ or __cobalt__).

They __won’t stick__ to __aluminum, copper, brass,__ and __most stainless steel__.

Common surfaces magnets stick to:

- Dishwashers with steel exteriors
- Whiteboards with a steel backing
- Metal doors
- Washing machines and dryers with steel exteriors

Not sure if something is magnetic? Touch a regular fridge magnet to it—if the fridge magnet doesn’t stick, your custom magnet won’t either.

What size magnets are available?

[Custom magnets](https://www.stickermule.com/products/custom-magnets) come in any size from 0.75" × 0.75" up to 36" × 24" (3' × 2').

On the order page, pick one of the common sizes—or choose __Custom size__ to enter the exact dimensions you want.

We can also add one inner cut if:
- The inner cut is at least 0.25" diameter
- There’s at least 0.25" of material between the inner cut and the outer edge

When used correctly, __flexible magnets generally won’t damage car paint__. Most issues happen when __dirt, moisture, or heat__ get trapped underneath the magnet, so we recommend the best practices below.

###Best practices for car use
- Apply to a clean, flat metal surface (avoid dents, deep curves, or heavily contoured panels).
- Remove and reposition regularly—weekly is ideal.
- Each time you remove it, wipe away trapped dirt/debris and dry any moisture underneath before reapplying.
- Store flat when not in use to prevent warping.
- Don’t apply over decals or vinyl wraps.
- Avoid prolonged extreme heat (like direct sun for long periods), which can compromise the magnet backing.
