What's the recommended line thickness?

For clean, sharp lines that actually show up the way you want them to, we recommend a minimum line thickness of 1 pt, but depending on the product, you might need to go a little thicker:

While 1 pt is generally the safe zone, keep in mind that colour, image resolution (PPI), and the product you’re printing on can affect how crisp your design appears.

If your line colour is too similar to the background (like an orange line on a red background), it may get lost. White or light lines on a dark background may also get lost due to how darker colours expand slightly and "take over" lighter colours. Making lines thicker on a dark background helps keep your lines visible.

Low-resolution artwork may print pixelated or blurry, causing fine lines to lose their sharpness. Fabric and textured products often require thicker lines so the ink can print cleanly over the surface.

Need a gut check? Upload your design as-is, and we’ll review it and flag anything that might need adjusting during proofing.

And if you’re unsure, you can always order a sample or a small batch first to make sure everything looks just right.
