Custom magnets

Our flexible custom magnets are made by mixing iron (ferrite) powder with a proprietary blend of rubber and plastic compounds. The ferrite powder contains magnetic properties, while the rubber and plastic help create a pliable material. This mixture is pressed into sheets. The front of each sheet features high-quality white vinyl. Each sheet is printed with your custom design and carefully cut to match its unique shape. The end result is a durable, flexible, and vibrantly colourful magnet with your one-of-a-kind design!

Don't let their size fool you—our custom magnets are thin, high-energy magnets with a pull strength of 317.36 kilos per square metre. In other words, one square metre of magnet material can hold up to 317.36 kilos.

What that means in real life:

• They can easily hold three sheets of standard 203 mm × 279 mm paper on a fridge.
• They can stay securely attached to cars at highway speeds.

Our custom magnets have a thickness of about 0.38 mm, or 15 mils. For reference, this is about the same thickness as our die cut stickers with the backing on.

Our acrylic magnets have a thickness of about 4 mm, or 158 mils, including the magnet itself.

Keep in mind that magnet thickness does not necessarily correlate with magnet strength. The strength of a magnet primarily depends on the quality of the raw materials and the manufacturing process.

With proper care, our custom magnets can last for many years. We use durable materials and waterproof ink to produce strong magnets with vibrant, lasting colours.

As with any product, a magnet's life expectancy depends on how you use it and its exposure to the elements. Magnets used to decorate your fridge, for example, will maintain their vibrancy longer than magnets on your car, which are subjected to persistent sunlight, rain, dirt, and wind.

Our magnets can be used both indoors and outdoors. However, they do not have a UV laminate, so outdoor magnets may fade more quickly if they're consistently in direct sunlight. To ensure a long life, avoid exposing your magnet to extreme heat, moisture, or chemicals and subjecting it to physical wear and tear.

Custom magnets are attracted to ferromagnetic materials. These are materials that contain strong magnetic properties, such as iron, steel, nickel, or cobalt. Magnets will NOT stick to aluminium, copper, brass, and most stainless steel.

Some common household items that contain ferromagnetic materials include:

• Steel door refrigerators
• Metal filing cabinets
• Dishwashers with steel exteriors
• Whiteboards with a steel backing
• Metal doors
• Washing machines and dryers with steel exteriors
• Toolboxes
• Steel shelving
• Metal beams or frames

The fun thing about designing magnets for household items is that they can be attractive and practical. For example, a refrigerator magnet with a calendar, a "clean/dirty" magnet for the dishwasher, or whiteboard magnets featuring additional white space to write on with a dry-erase marker.

We can accommodate any size, from a tiny 19 mm × 19 mm fridge magnet to a 914 mm × 609 mm magnetic car sign and anything in between. On the order page, we've listed the most common sizes, but you can select the custom size option to enter any custom size you'd like.

Remember, your magnets don't just have to be square, rectangle, oval, or circle! We can cut your magnet into any custom shape that fits your artwork and design. We can also include one inner cut with these stipulations:

• Your inner cut must be at least 6.35 mm in diameter
• There must be 6.35 mm material between the inner cut and outer edge.

When used correctly, flexible magnets generally won't damage car paint. Most issues happen when dirt, moisture, or heat get trapped underneath the magnet, so we recommend the best practices below.

Best practices for car use

• Apply to a clean, flat metal surface (avoid dents, deep curves, or heavily contoured panels).
• Remove and reposition regularly—weekly is ideal.
• Each time you remove it, wipe away trapped dirt/debris and dry any moisture underneath before reapplying.
• Store flat when not in use to prevent warping.
• Don’t apply over decals or vinyl wraps.
• Avoid prolonged extreme heat (like direct sun for long periods), which can compromise the magnet backing.
