How Much Does AI SEO Cost in Australia?

Prices checked September 2026. All figures in Australian dollars.
Search this exact question and most of what ranks is general SEO pricing content rather than anything specific to AI search work. That's worth knowing before reading further. AI SEO as its own separate price category is still thin, and a lot of what gets billed as "AI SEO" is standard SEO pricing with AI-visibility work folded in rather than charged separately.
This guide pulls together what Australian providers actually publish. It explains what the AI-specific part of the work costs when it is priced separately, and how to budget depending on your business and the delivery model you choose.
A disclosure: this article is written by Blake Smith, who works as an AI SEO consultant and founded Performance Agency. Both are mentioned below, and where their pricing sits is stated alongside everyone else's.
The short answer
Most Australian businesses paying for AI SEO in 2026 spend somewhere between $1,500 and $5,000 a month. Enterprise, national and highly contested B2B engagements run from $5,000 to $10,000+ a month.
One-off AI visibility audits typically cost $1,500 to $5,000. Where AI SEO is sold as an add-on to an existing SEO campaign, published examples start at around $800 to $1,000 a month.
There is no industry-standard AI SEO surcharge. Some providers include AI visibility work in every SEO campaign, some sell it separately, and some add it on top.
What the published numbers actually say
StudioHawk's guide sets out three retainer tiers:
Entry level, $500 to $1,000 a month: basic audits and limited keyword work, suited to small local businesses.
Growth, $1,500 to $3,000 a month: keyword research, content and digital PR. The guide calls this the "sweet spot" for small and medium businesses.
Authority, $5,000 or more a month: comprehensive strategy, technical SEO and AI search optimisation together.
StudioHawk states that AI visibility tracking and optimisation is part of every campaign it runs, rather than a separate fee. For project work, it lists:
site audits at $2,000 to $5,000
content audits at $2,000 to $6,000
migrations at $3,000 to $10,000
digital PR campaigns from $4,000
For hourly consulting, it gives $150 to $300 an hour depending on expertise.
Digital Nomads HQ's guide takes a research-based approach. It reviewed 50 published entry-level offers from Australian providers and found a median of $790 a month. It stresses that this reflects starter packages, not the typical campaign.
Its published examples include:
independent consultant plans from $790 to $3,299 a month
one agency's package tiers from $2,200 to $6,600 a month
competitive or national campaigns from $5,000 to $10,000+ a month
one consultant's hourly rate of $250 with a two-hour minimum
standalone audits at $599 and $1,500
On AI SEO specifically, its finding is the most useful single data point in this article: there is no standard AI SEO surcharge. Among the offers it reviewed, AI work was priced in three ways:
included in an SEO plan from $890 a month
sold as a separate service from $800 a month
added to an existing retainer from $1,000 a month
Search Scope's AI SEO page is one of the few Australian examples of AI SEO priced as its own product. All prices are ex-GST and month-to-month:
an AI visibility audit at $1,500, or $3,000 for ecommerce and multi-location
a one-off entity foundation project from $1,950
ongoing programs from $1,499 a month for local service businesses and from $3,999 a month for high-competition and ecommerce brands
Why AI SEO pricing is so hard to compare
Three things make headline prices misleading.
"AI SEO" means different deliverables at different providers. Tracking whether ChatGPT mentions your brand is a very different job from fixing crawler access, restructuring content and earning citations on the sites AI systems already trust. Two $1,000-a-month quotes can cover completely different work.

Some providers bundle it and some don't. An agency that includes AI visibility in a $3,000 retainer isn't cheaper or dearer than one charging $2,000 plus a $1,000 AI add-on. You have to compare the combined scope.
Starting prices rise after scoping. Most published figures are "from" prices. Once a provider reviews your site, competition and goals, the real number is often higher.
What you're actually paying for
When AI SEO is priced separately, the extra cost usually covers some mix of the following:
AI visibility tracking. A fixed set of buyer questions is tested across ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity. Answers change between runs, so tracking has to be repeated to mean anything.
Technical access work. Checking that AI crawlers such as OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot aren't blocked, and that key content doesn't depend on JavaScript many AI crawlers don't execute.
Entity work. Making business facts consistent across your site, directories, profiles and registries, so AI systems can identify you clearly.
Content restructuring. Rewriting key pages so individual passages answer questions completely on their own.
Third-party corroboration. Earning mentions and placements on the sites AI systems already cite for your category. This is usually the most expensive component.
Schema and structured data, implemented where it accurately describes the page. Google states that no special markup or optimisation is needed to appear in its AI features beyond normal search requirements.
The first three items are relatively cheap and mostly one-off. The last three are ongoing and scale with how competitive your category is. That's why prices range so widely.
What drives the price up or down
Competition. A local service in a regional market needs far less work than a national B2B brand whose competitors already own the AI answers.
Site size and condition. Large or technically messy sites need more cleanup before AI-specific work can land.
Number of platforms and questions tracked. Tracking 15 buyer questions monthly costs less than tracking 50 fortnightly across four platforms.
Authority building. Digital PR and managed placements often carry publisher costs on top of the provider's fee.
Existing organic strength. Google's AI features lean heavily on sites that already rank well. A thin organic foundation means paying for traditional SEO first.
Who implements. A fee that covers recommendations for your developer costs less than one that covers doing the work.
Consultant rates vs agency retainers
These figures blend both delivery models together, which can make comparison confusing. As a rough rule, a consultant's hourly or day rate reflects one senior person's time directly, while an agency retainer bundles a team's capacity into one monthly figure. A $2,500-a-month agency retainer and a $200-an-hour consultant aren't directly comparable without knowing how many hours of work each actually includes.
The published data also shows that "consultant" doesn't automatically mean cheaper. Independent consultant plans in the Digital Nomads HQ research reached $3,299 a month, above some agencies' entry tiers. What changes is what the money buys: concentrated senior time with a consultant, or team capacity and parallel execution with an agency. With a consultant, check whether the fee includes finished content and development work, or only advice your team then has to act on.
AI SEO consultant vs agency in Australia sets out the decision factors behind which model actually fits a given budget and scope, beyond just the headline number.
What this means for budgeting
A small business testing the water is realistically looking at $500 to $1,500 a month. Most of that will go on general SEO fundamentals with AI-visibility work layered in rather than a separate line item. At this level, check exactly which AI work is included, because it's often limited to tracking.
A growing or mid-size business treating AI search as a genuine channel is more realistically in the $1,500 to $5,000 a month range. That's where StudioHawk's growth tier, most published agency packages, and Search Scope's AI-specific programs sit. If you already pay for SEO, a separately priced AI add-on of roughly $800 to $1,000+ a month is the other route.
Enterprise, national and contested B2B engagements combine comprehensive technical, content and authority work. They start at around $5,000 a month and commonly reach $10,000+ depending on scope.
Before any retainer, a one-off audit of $1,500 to $5,000 is often the better first spend. Paying monthly before anyone has established what's actually wrong is the wrong order.
When comparing quotes, work out the total commitment rather than the monthly figure: the monthly fee across your minimum term, plus any setup fee, plus GST, plus any publisher or media costs charged on top.
Where my own pricing sits
For transparency, here's where my own pricing sits against the market figures above:
Consulting with me directly: AI visibility audits of roughly $1,500 to $5,000+, and ongoing consulting of roughly $1,500 to $10,000+ a month, ex-GST, depending on scope and how contested the category is. You can enquire about consulting here.
Performance Agency engagements: these are built for established B2B companies and typically sized for businesses comfortable with $5,000+ a month.
If your budget points toward a lean, direct engagement, AI SEO Consultant Australia covers what that looks like. If it points toward a team handling broader scope, AI SEO Agency Australia covers that instead.
Questions to ask before you sign
Is AI visibility work included in the fee, or charged separately? If it's separate, ask what exactly it adds.
Which AI platforms are tracked, how many buyer questions, and how often?
Does the fee cover implementation, or only recommendations?
Are placements, PR or media costs included, or charged on top?
What's the minimum term, notice period and setup fee?
How will AI visibility be connected to enquiries or pipeline in reporting?
Red flags
Guaranteed citations in ChatGPT or Google's AI Overviews. No provider can guarantee inclusion, because the platforms themselves don't.
An "AI SEO" fee with no stated deliverables beyond a dashboard.
Prices far below the ranges above for work that claims to include content, technical fixes and authority building. That scope doesn't fit into a few hours a month.
A long lock-in contract with no diagnosis first.
FAQs
How much does AI SEO cost in Australia?
Most businesses spend $1,500 to $5,000 a month, with enterprise and contested national categories at $5,000 to $10,000+. One-off AI visibility audits typically cost $1,500 to $5,000. Published AI SEO add-ons to existing campaigns start at around $800 to $1,000 a month.
Is AI SEO more expensive than regular SEO?
Usually somewhat, since it adds entity work, structured data and AI-visibility tracking on top of standard SEO fundamentals. But it's rarely priced as a fully separate service. Digital Nomads HQ's research found no standard surcharge: AI work was included, sold separately or added on, depending on the provider.
Why do some agencies include AI SEO for free?
Because much of the underlying work overlaps with good SEO: crawlability, content quality, authority and structure. Providers such as StudioHawk treat AI visibility as part of every campaign. What's rarely free is dedicated AI-specific tracking and authority building at volume.
Can I do AI SEO myself without hiring anyone?
The technical fundamentals can be handled in-house if you have the skills: crawlability, clean markup and entity clarity. What's harder to do yourself is measuring whether it's actually working. AI-citation tracking tools are still a developing category, and answers vary from one run to the next.
Is an AI visibility audit worth paying for?
Usually, if you're about to commit to a retainer. An audit of $1,500 to $5,000 establishes what's actually blocking you, and some providers credit it against later work. Confirm whether fixing the findings is included or needs a separate budget.
Why do pricing guides disagree on the exact numbers?
Different providers scope "SEO" differently, published prices are usually starting points, and hourly rates depend heavily on seniority. Treat any single figure as a rough anchor rather than an exact quote. Get a scoped proposal before committing to a number.
