How to Vote by Mail — NY-21 Primary, June 23, 2026

Voting by mail in New York is simple, and any registered voter can request an early mail ballot and vote from home. Here's how.

Step 1: Request your ballot

Apply for an early mail ballot one of these ways:

• Online at https://elections.ny.gov/request-ballot (fastest)

• By mail, email, or fax to your county Board of Elections

• In person at your county Board of Elections office

Deadline to request a mailed ballot: Saturday, June 13, 2026. Your request must be received by this date — not just postmarked — so apply now. If you want to pick up a ballot in person instead, you have until June 22.

Step 2: Fill out your ballot

When your ballot arrives, mark your choices and follow the instructions in the envelope. Then:

1. Place your ballot in the Security Envelope.

2. Sign and date the outside of that envelope — this step is required, and an unsigned ballot won't count.

3. Seal it, and place it inside the Return Envelope (postage is already paid).

Step 3: Return your ballot

• By mail: postmark it no later than June 23 (it must arrive at your county Board of Elections by June 30), or

• In person: drop it at any early voting site, any Election Day poll site, or your county Board of Elections office by 9:00 p.m. on June 23.

Don't wait until the deadline — mail it back as soon as you've voted.

Key dates

• June 13–21 — Early voting

• June 22 — Last day to request a ballot in person

• June 23 — Primary Election Day (ballots must be postmarked or dropped off by 9 p.m.)
