Yes—our custom magnets are strong enough to adhere securely to cars and stay put at highway speeds, thanks to a pull strength of 65 lb/ft². When used correctly, flexible magnets generally won’t damage car paint. Most issues happen when dirt, moisture, or heat get trapped underneath the magnet, so we recommend the best practices below. ###Best practices for car use Apply to a clean, flat metal surface (avoid dents, deep curves, or heavily contoured panels). Remove and reposition regularly—weekly is ideal. Each time you remove it, wipe away trapped dirt/debris and dry any moisture underneath before reapplying. Store flat when not in use to prevent warping. Don’t apply over decals or vinyl wraps. Avoid prolonged extreme heat (like direct sun for long periods), which can compromise the magnet backing.

Custom magnets come in any size from 0.75" × 0.75" up to 36" × 24" (3' × 2'). On the order page, pick one of the common sizes—or choose Custom size to enter the exact dimensions you want. Custom magnets stick best to ferromagnetic metals—materials with strong magnetic properties like iron and steel (and also nickel or cobalt). They won’t stick to aluminum, copper, brass, and most stainless steel. With proper care, our custom magnets can last for many years. They’re made with durable materials and waterproof ink to keep colors vibrant. Indoor vs. outdoor use: Indoors: Magnets used on a fridge or other indoor surfaces typically stay vibrant longer. Outdoors (including cars): Outdoor exposure (sun, rain, dirt, wind) can shorten lifespan. Our magnets can be used outdoors, but they don’t have a UV laminate, so magnets left in direct sunlight may fade faster. Our flexible custom magnets are made from iron (ferrite) powder mixed with a proprietary blend of rubber and plastic compounds, then pressed into sheets. How it’s built (layer by layer): Magnetic base: Ferrite powder provides the magnetic properties Flexible binder: Rubber + plastic compounds make the magnet durable and bendable Printable face: A high-quality white vinyl top layer for crisp, vibrant printing Each sheet is printed with your design and cut to match your unique shape.

Standard magnets are thin, flexible sheet magnets. Acrylic magnets are rigid acrylic pieces with a 10 mm round magnet attached to the back. Both can be cut to custom shapes, but they’re designed for different uses. ###Which one should I choose? Choose standard magnets for larger sizes, full-bleed printing, and flexible magnets (great for promos, fridge magnets, and car magnets). Magnet sheets are a single sheet that contains multiple peelable magnets. You can include one design repeated or several different designs on the same sheet. Magnet sheets lie flat, store easily, and are great for grouping magnets by theme. Sheets can be made in custom sizes up to 20" × 20". The number of magnets per sheet depends on the size and shape of each magnet. Magnet sheets print full color and can be full bleed. They’re made from the same material as our standard custom magnets.

We can cut your magnet to any shape—the cut follows your artwork (die cut). Circles, squares, rectangles, ovals, and rounded corners are all common, but you’re not limited to those. Want a specific cutline? Leave a note at checkout, or include a vector path/stroke in your file and we’ll follow it. Acrylic vs. standard (quick note): Standard magnets: full-bleed printing is available. Acrylic magnets: no full bleed—there will be a 1/32" clear acrylic border around the design.

A little maintenance helps your custom magnets last longer and keeps the surface underneath in good shape. ###Before you apply Make sure any paint, clear coat, or wax is fully cured. Wash the surface and the magnet with mild detergent, then dry with a soft cloth (or air-dry). ###Apply it correctly Apply only to smooth, flat, or gently curved metal. Make sure the magnet sits completely flat; don’t place it over molding, decals, pin striping, protrusions, or in concave areas. For best hold, the magnet should be 60°F (16°C) or warmer when installed. Don’t use magnets on horizontal metal surfaces in direct sunlight (like car hoods). Avoid temperatures above 160°F (71°C) or below -15°F (-26°C). Cold temperatures can make magnets more brittle, so handle with care. Long-term sun exposure can cause uneven fading on the surface because the covered area is shielded from UV. ###Clean regularly Remove the magnet periodically to prevent moisture or dirt buildup. Clean both the magnet and the surface with mild detergent and dry completely before reapplying. For vehicle-mounted signs, remove and clean daily. After waxing or polishing, wait 2 days for wax to cure before reapplying magnets. ###If you see residue Use gentle dish soap and hot water. Carefully lift residue with a plastic card.

Don’t let their size fool you—our custom magnets are thin, high-energy magnets with a pull strength of 65 pounds per square foot. In other words, one square foot of magnet material can hold up to 65 pounds. What that means in real life: They can easily hold three sheets of standard 8.5" × 11" paper on a fridge. Our custom magnets have a thickness of about 0.38 mm, or 15 mils (1 mil = 0.001 inches). For reference, this is about the same thickness as our die cut stickers with the backing on. Our acrylic magnets have a thickness of about 4 mm, or 158 mils, including the magnet itself. Keep in mind that magnet thickness does not necessarily correlate with magnet strength. The strength of a magnet primarily depends on the quality of the raw materials and the manufacturing process.
