Custom magnets stick best to ferromagnetic metals—materials with strong magnetic properties like iron and steel (and also nickel or cobalt).
They won’t stick to aluminum, copper, brass, and most stainless steel.
Common surfaces magnets stick to:
- Steel door refrigerators
- Metal filing cabinets
- Dishwashers with steel exteriors
- Whiteboards with a steel backing
- Metal doors
- Washing machines and dryers with steel exteriors
- Toolboxes
- Steel shelving
- Metal beams or frames
Not sure if something is magnetic? Touch a regular fridge magnet to it—if the fridge magnet doesn’t stick, your custom magnet won’t either.
